Verify Mill SpecsAISI 304 (UNS S30400) remains the cornerstone of the modern stainless steel industry, accounting for over 50% of all stainless steel produced globally. Due to its balanced austenitic structure, containing approximately 18% Chromium and 8% Nickel, it offers excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability. These critical properties make it indispensable for global supply chains ranging from petrochemical infrastructure to sanitary food processing lines.
As global industries demand higher material efficiency, wholesale sourcing of 304 sheet metal has evolved. Buyers are no longer looking simply for raw sheets; they require precision tolerances, clean mechanical behavior during deep drawings, and compliant raw materials that prevent intergranular corrosion. This demands factories that strictly manage alloy compositions and implement state-of-the-art inline cooling and leveling procedures.
To guarantee structural stability and prevent sensitization, our factory maintains tight chemical limits during batch melting:
| Element | Standard Value (%) | OES Control (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | ≤ 0.08 | ≤ 0.05 |
| Chromium (Cr) | 18.00 - 20.00 | 18.20 - 18.50 |
| Nickel (Ni) | 8.00 - 10.50 | 8.10 - 8.35 |
| Manganese (Mn) | ≤ 2.00 | 1.65 - 1.80 |
Why sourcing from Wuxi's premier steel hub offers unparalleled advantages for global procurement managers.
Located in Wuxi, Jiangsu, OES Metal operates at the focal point of the global stainless steel industry. This clustering enables seamless raw material supply chains, rapid processing scaling, and lower manufacturing overheads compared to Western alternatives.
We feature multi-stage finishing stations, offering raw materials in No. 1 hot-rolled finish, 2B cold-rolled uniform finish, BA (Bright Annealed) mirror finish, and decorative structural checker options. Customized edge slitting is executed to strict geometric tolerances.
In response to global demands, OES Metal has developed smooth logistics corridors to the CIS, Europe, Middle East, and the Americas. Whether shipping through the Port of Shanghai or via the China-Europe Railway Express, our supply chain ensures timely, trackable cargo delivery.
We specialize in processing four primary forms of high-grade stainless steel products to meet exact architectural, structural, and mechanical requirements.

When welding 304 stainless steel, exposure to temperatures within the 425 to 870°C range can cause Chromium Carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries. This sensitization leaves the steel vulnerable to corrosion. To prevent this, OES Metal offers low-carbon 304L variants or titanium-stabilized 321 grades. These options keep your welded fabrications structurally sound under corrosive operating conditions.
Selecting the proper surface finish is critical to your project. Standard cold-rolled 2B finishes work well for structural components. For food processing and sanitary systems, we recommend a polished No. 4 finish or a reflective BA surface. Smooth finishes make it harder for contaminants to stick to the metal, facilitating easier cleanups and preventing localized pitting.
We supply complete EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates with every shipment. These records detail chemical composition, yield and tensile strength, elongation, and hardness test results. Providing this chemical and physical trace keeps your supply chain audit-ready and ensures the materials perform reliably in high-stress industrial applications.

The primary difference is the Carbon content limit. AISI 304 contains a maximum of 0.08% Carbon, whereas AISI 304L is restricted to a maximum of 0.03% Carbon. The lower carbon profile of 304L minimizes harmful chromium carbide precipitation during welding, which prevents intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone of welded structures without requiring post-weld annealing.
While 304 is classified as an austenitic stainless steel (which is non-magnetic in its annealed state), cold working processes (such as rolling, drawing, or stamping) can trigger a partial phase transformation from austenite to martensite. Martensite is ferromagnetic, which is why cold-rolled sheets or drawn bars often show a slight magnetic pull. Solution annealing at 1040-1100°C restores the fully austenitic, non-magnetic structure.
Our factory processes cold-rolled 304 sheets in strict compliance with ASTM A480 standards. For standard gauges (0.5mm to 3.0mm), our precision rolling mills maintain thickness tolerances within ±0.02mm to ±0.05mm. This consistency ensures smooth automatic feeding and predictable stamping results for automated CNC fabrication lines.
We provide full logistical support for CIS destinations. We ship via sea freight to Saint Petersburg, Novorossiysk, or Vladivostok, and utilize direct rail links via the China-Europe Railway Express (routes passing through Manzhouli, Khorgos, or Alashankou). We supply all required export documentation, including bilateral Certificates of Origin and detailed packing lists, to ensure smooth customs clearance.
For sanitary applications, we recommend a polished No. 4 finish or a BA (Bright Annealed) mirror finish. These finishes create a smooth, low-roughness surface that resists bacterial buildup and scale adhesion. They are also easy to clean and sanitize, making them ideal for commercial kitchens, dairy facilities, and food processing lines.
304 stainless steel offers good general corrosion resistance, but it is susceptible to pitting and crevice corrosion when exposed to seawater or high-chloride environments. For direct marine contact, we recommend upgrading to molybdenum-alloyed grade 316 or 316L, or using duplex alloys like 2205 to prevent chloride stress corrosion cracking.
Our quality control facility is equipped for Positive Material Identification (PMI) chemical testing, tensile and yield strength testing, Rockwell and Vickers hardness testing, intergranular corrosion testing, and ultrasonic thickness mapping. All tests are documented in our standard EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate.
To protect finishes like 2B, BA, No. 4, or Mirror during transport, we apply a double-layer PE or laser-cut protective film (ranging from 70 to 100 microns thick) to the face of each sheet. Sheets are then secured on reinforced wooden skids, wrapped with moisture-barrier paper, and strapped with heavy steel bands to prevent shifting inside the shipping containers.
